IMPD officer faces battery charges after arrest


Indianapolis police arrested one of their own late Friday in a disturbance on the Northeastside.
Officer David Reece was arrested and preliminarily charged with two counts of battery and one count of residential entry, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department reported today.
While IMPD investigates the incident, Reece will be suspended without pay and stripped of his police powers.
Reece was arrested after a disturbance shortly before midnight in the 8800 block of William Penn Circle, a luxury home development near Sargent Road and 75th Street.
The department said it wouldn’t release more details of the incident until Monday.
A 41-year-old woman who lives in the 8800 block of William Penn Circle was involved in the incident, in addition to a 41-year-old woman from Lancaster, Pa., and a 44-year-old man from Sheridan, according to the police report.
The report also says police impounded Reece’s Chevy truck and confiscated a man’s wallet and a cellphone.

Reece will be referred in coming weeks to the department’s employee assistance program as well as to the IMPD’s Office of Professional Development and Police Wellness, IMPD said.
