NEW YORK (CMC):
New York police said that a St Vincent-born
cop shot dead her Guyana-born boyfriend and their one-year-old baby and then
committed suicide.
Police said that Rosette
Samuel, 43, who was off-duty at the time, shot and killed Dason Peters on
Monday in their East Flatbush, Brooklyn, apartment.
The 13-year New York Police
Department (NYPD) veteran then went into the bedroom and killed the baby with a
single bullet to his chest, before taking her own life, the police added.
The police said they found the
deadly weapon by her side and that there were no signs of any struggle inside
the apartment.
The NYPD said Samuel had moved
to the 108th Police Precinct in Queens two months ago after working for a
number of years at the Manhattan Traffic Division.
Police said the sole survivor
in the bloody horror was Samuel's 19-year-old son from a previous relationship,
Dondre Samuel.
He told police investigators
that he heard a 'pop-pop' sound as his mother got ready for work, and that she
had been arguing all night with Peters, while walking around with the gun.
Police said Dondre escaped the
bloodbath by climbing through a second-storey window as shots rang in the quiet
Caribbean neighbourhood.
Just before the tragedy, police
said Samuel had called the 108th Precinct stating that she would be late for
work.
