New
Milford Ct. cop Scott Smith has killed himself. Smith, 27 at the time, was the
first Connecticut police officer to be charged with murder for a line of duty
killing. Smith, was found dead in bed in
his Danbury home, a suicide as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning. Smith had
placed a generator in his bedroom and turned it on, and that the windows were
taped up. In March 2000, a Litchfield Superior Court jury acquitted Smith of
murder in the killing of Franklyn Reid, 27, but convicted him of first-degree
manslaughter with a firearm. Smith was sentenced to six years in prison, but
allowed to remain free as his conviction was appealed.
