NEW
YORK (AP) — New York City has agreed to pay $450,000 to settle a lawsuit
brought by a man who said he was falsely arrested on a prostitution charge
outside a Manhattan adult video store in 2008.
Robert
Pinter's attorneys announced the deal Monday. A city Law Department spokesman
says the settlement "was in the best interest of all parties."
Pinter
says the settlement was a victory for 40 or so men arrested falsely outside six
Manhattan adult video stores in a police sweep. Activists said the sweep was discriminatory.
They say it targeted minorities believed to be gay.
Pinter
stands to receive only $50,000 of the settlement. Lawyers say the rest will pay
attorneys' fees and other court-related costs.
