BAYTOWN,
Texas -
What
should have been a Sunday of celebration for Mother’s Day developed into a
passionate protest against alleged brutality by Baytown police.
A
65-year-old grandmother, her grandchild and many others, including community
activist Quanell X, walked straight to the main entrance of the Baytown Police
Department demanding an end to police abuse.
And
they say one video proves it, one that was recorded on the night of May 3 when
a large group of people were watching a boxing match at a Baytown home.
According to protesters, officers arrived after receiving a noise disturbance
call.
“I
had already put my hands up in the air and told them I was not resisting
arrest, them seeing my hands in the air, they still came up and punched me in
the eye, tased me multiple times, and even when I was in handcuffs,” says Edgar
Garcia, who was arrested that night.
The
video shows multiple officers arresting people inside the home and even one of
them uses a stun device to restrain one of the invited guests. Erica Clarke was
among them.
“I
had to take care of the grandmother that was tased four times. That was my
first time in there,” says Clark as she holds back tears.
That
grandmother was Maria Rosario Zepeda, who is still marked, not just physically
but emotionally, from the whole ordeal. She tells FOX 26 News that other
children present in the home also fell victims, when they were pepper sprayed.
Young
Anthony Zepeda tells FOX 26 that his eyes started hurting and he got very
scared.
The
family and many Baytown residents are asking for the Harris County District
Attorney's office to investigate.
For
one woman and her grandchildren, Mother’s Day just wasn’t the same knowing that
the Baytown Police Department has not responded to this new video, which shows
part of a story, many will never forget.
